Mission

Keeping Families Connected Minnesota provides free legal support to relatives and kin to keep children rooted in their family and community.

Vision

We envision a Minnesota where families have access to expert legal representation and support at every step, and an opportunity to co-create policies that preserve family unity.

Organizational Values

  • Interdisciplinary Practice – Interdisciplinary practice combined with our commitment to staying involved until people have the answers they need results in effective, trauma-informed legal services in child welfare.

  • Relationships – Children do better when they retain relationships, and live with people who know and love them.

  • Lived Expertise – Our organization is strongest when it is guided by the voices of people most impacted by child welfare intervention and relative caregiving.

  • Equity – It is our responsibility to advance equity; we do that by prioritizing access to the people most disproportionately represented statewide in the child welfare system, and by proudly serving those facing the greatest barriers to justice and access to the resources that support a high quality of life.

  • Leadership – As leaders in our field, we are responsible to help define best practice and to share our knowledge.

  • Collaboration – Collaborative relationships with organizations, professionals, and communities create seamless partnerships that get people the right help.

  • Stewardship – The public trust afforded us as a nonprofit organization is precious, and we commit to responsible stewardship of resources, transparency in governance, and ethical, high-quality practice in the delivery of services.
